Indo Portuguese Shawl

The Indo-Portuguese quilts mark a period in history when the textiles of India had reached the peak of their sophistication. These quilts represent some of the oldest surviving Indian examples and were predominantly made for European export between 1550 and 1650 CE. This quilted fabric was not only used as a bedcover but also employed as a hanging, tablecloth or floor covering. Biswa Bangla is trying to revive the lost craft form and has succeeded in producing this beautiful shawl.
