About Dokra
Dokra handicrafts are characterized by primitive simplicity, charming folk motifs, rustic beauty, and imaginative designs and patterns. Dokra uses the ‘lost wax casting’ (cire perdue) process, one of the earliest method of non-ferrous metal casting known to human civilisation. The traditional Dokra artisans of Bardhaman and Bankura districts were largely dependent on occasional fairs and exhibitions to sell these handicrafts for livelihoods.
Products in this craft form range from simple idols to diversified products like table decoratives, cutlery, candle stands, incense holders, soap cases and various other utility items.
